About Splitwise
Share fairly and simply
Splitwise’s mission is to make shared living easier by providing neutral advice, fair judgement, and simplified expense sharing through web-based tools, calculators, and blog content.
It started with JB’s rent-splitting calculator: a simple tool for determining what’s fair when dividing up the rent for an apartment. Eventually, though, we realized that what we wanted was a way to keep track of all kinds of expenses around the house: rent, bills, and other random transactions. It seemed like everyone we knew had their own way of tracking debts between housemates, with notes on the refrigerator and complicated Excel spreadsheets. There had to be a better solution.
And so we built the new Splitwise – our humble attempt to solve the problem of managing house expenses. We hope you enjoy what we have to offer, and we look forward to improving Splitwise in the months and years to come.

The Splitwise team
Jonathan Bittner
Jon (or JB, as his friends call him) is an astrophysics graduate student at Harvard who thinks quantitative fairness is pretty fun.
In his spare time, he sings with Musica Sacra,
and used to sing a cappella with
Out of the Blue.
He loves surveys, wombats, and his girlfriend, Rebecca.
Ryan Laughlin
Ryan is a senior at Yale majoring in computer science. He has worked as UI/UX lead at SocialSci, and builds sites and web apps of his own at prettydang. When not staring at a screen full of Ruby or CSS, he enjoys drumming and singing (like JB, he used to sing with Out of the Blue), as well as working on strange art projects.
